ROOF REPAIR AND RESTORATION IN NORTH TEXAS
How do I know when I need a roof repair?
- Leaking inside the house
- Leaks that appear to originate from the top of the wall or from the ceiling inside the house may be a clear sign of a compromised roof. Remember that rain has a way of finding its way into cracks and crevices, so the rainy seasons in your area may expose roof issues pretty quickly.
- Shingles that appear broken, missing granules/shingles, curled, or exposed fiberglass
- Compromised shingles can lead to leaks and may expose your attic to the elements – a GAF certified roofing company can give you a free, honest assessment on whether you’re looking at an isolated problem, or a bigger need for repairs.
- Roofs older than 10+ years
- If your roof hasn’t had general maintenance in 10+ years, the caulking on exposed nails and penetrations may be cracked or not sealed properly any longer. Caulking seals the nails so water cannot leak through the roof.
- When you purchased the house, the seller’s disclosure should have some of this information on the age of the roof, and it’s not a bad idea to touch base with the previous owner to understand the age of the roof and any associated repairs.
How do I pay for a roof?
There are 3 main ways to pay for roof repairs: out-of-pocket, home insurance (see below), or financing (see below). You may end up using some mixture of these 3 methods.
At Buford General Contractors, we choose to give you an honest assessment every time on how to best manage the financial responsibility of roof repair or restoration – the ideal situation is to take as much stress off of your family as possible.
How to submit a roof insurance claim in Texas
Not all roofing contractors provide insurance claim assistance! At BGC, we can supplement where needed if your insurance company doesn’t agree to pay for a proper installation.
Filing a claim with your insurance company is a critical moment: you need to get it right. Some people fail to include all the related damage in their claim, then they miss out on insurance coverage of that damage later.
Before you open an insurance claim, ask your roofing contractor:
- How long do I have to file the claim? (there’s often a time limit from the date of damage)
- Did our home incur any other damage as a result of the roof damage? (you’ll want to make sure you include that in your claim, since there may be a time limit to report that damage as well)
- Can you share with me the photos you took of the damage, and the estimate, as soon as possible? Photos and estimates are essential parts of the insurance claim – and be sure to include any photos you may have taken as well.
- Can you be here when my insurance adjuster comes out to inspect so that everyone sees the same damages?
- Do you offer financing if the insurance doesn’t cover all the damages? (See below!)
